I am asked many questions about my profession as a jeweler. People are curious to know how I create my jewelry, which techniques I use, why I am so passionate about jewelry-making, where I get my ideas, etc. THE questions I am most often asked are: why did I call my business SCARO, and why do I create scarab beetle jewelry?

This gave me the idea to create my blog, so I could answer all these questions and discuss more in detail. With this new challenge, I did not even know where to start.

Writing a blog takes me out of my comfort zone, since I am more comfortable with jewellery-making tools. When I think about it, I realize one thing. I am doing what I love most in the world. Create. Sculpt. Design. Crafting jewelry that is sometimes unique, sometimes part of a limited series. My hands work gold and silver, manipulating pearls and precious stones. I create beauty in the form of jewelry.15

I would like to talk about gratitude, because without it, we would not be able to see the beauty in everything, in each gesture. Gratitude is why I create. Every day we see beauty around us. The immensity of the sky (if you could see the sky in Abitibi, where I live!), the scent of the looming storm, the laughter of a friend, two old hands rubbing together to warm themselves up…

For me, every moment is worth living because it is a source of emotion and inspiration. Even during difficult moments, we can hope for renewal and recognize the transformation occurring within us, which pushes us to evolve. It is moments like these that shape my retina, my heart, my imagination and transform into jewelry.

Sometimes a single encounter has a long-lasting effect on my imagination –sometimes only a single piece of jewelry comes out of it, unique as a precious moment. I find inspiration from people who live off the beaten path. I like people who choose to live marginal lifestyles, who live their passion, who are authentic even if they are a bit eccentric…And I also like people who are discrete and have a silent strength. Wisdom like an old soul.

I am infinitely grateful to all those people who have shared my life, whether momentarily or on a daily basis. I am grateful for my adoptive Abitibi and our beautiful Quebec. Grateful to be able to practice my profession as a jeweler, which I love, and to live my passion. I am also grateful to those who encouraged me and proudly wear my creations. Over time, many have become SCARO jewelry ambassadors!

I hope those who follow my blog take the time to thank life – even if it’s only once in a while!
